What is Self-Care?
Where do we start with Self Care? It is one of those things we’re often told to do these days—take a bath, go for a walk, drink more water. Without a bigger vision, self-care can feel like just another task instead of something that truly nourishes you.
What Self-care is really about, is honouring yourself and doing things that help you show up as the woman you want to be. It’s about taking little steps today that bring you closer to that version of yourself.
Without a clear vision, self-care might just feel like going through the motions. But when you know where you’re headed, it changes everything. Suddenly, self-care isn’t just a nice idea—it becomes something that genuinely supports you.
For Example:
- If your goal is to have more energy, self-care might mean hopping into bed early with a good book instead of scrolling your phone until midnight.
- Say you want to feel more organised in your business, self-care might mean saying “no” to an invite that would pull you away from your priorities.
- Maybe your goal is to run a kilometre, self-care might mean getting out for a walk today to prepare your body instead of putting it off.
- If you would love more playfulness in your life, self-care might mean cranking up your favourite song and dancing around the kitchen while making dinner.
How to Start Self-Care?
When you start Self Care, you start to prioritise yourself. Self-care might simply be about doing things that bring you joy—grabbing coffee with a friend, getting a pedicure, or sitting in the sun for a few minutes. And that’s absolutely perfect!
I’ve noticed with my clients that their self-care lists often reflect what they need most in that season of life. It’s completely personal. Some just want more fun, so their self-care is all about doing things that feel light and playful. Others want to take better care of their bodies, so self-care for them means getting enough sleep and eating foods that make them feel good. And they actually enjoy it because it fits their bigger vision.
When I was working on changing my own life, I was way too hard on myself. If I messed up—whether in an argument with my husband or falling off track with my fitness—I’d be my own worst critic. Eventually, I realised self-care for me meant slowing down, calming my nervous system, and speaking to myself with kindness.
If you are not sure where to start, ask yourself:
- Who do I want to be a year from now?
- How does that version of me feel?
- What’s different about my life?
- How can I bring more of that feeling into today?
- What one thing can I do right now, that will bring me closer to that feeling?
Self-care isn’t just about what you do—it’s about how it makes you feel. When it lines up with your vision, it stops feeling like a chore and starts feeling like something that truly nourishes you.
And here’s something incredible—when you live in alignment with your vision, it shows. Confidence, purpose, and self-respect are magnetic. When you honour yourself and move through life with intention, it not only feels amazing, but it also inspires those around you. Living in purpose is attractive, and it draws in the kind of energy and relationships that uplift you even more.
