It’s so hard to accept help when it’s not done the way I want. I get so irritated—why can’t he just do it right? The frustration feels endless, and here’s why:
If I don’t speak up, it doesn’t get done, so I end up doing it myself or venting my frustrations at anyone and everyone. I always feel overwhelmed and resentful.
If I ask him, it feels like he begrudgingly does it, which doesn’t feel great either. There’s always tension in the air.
If I keep quiet but he does do it, I usually have to redo it properly anyway, because it’s not as tidy or efficient as if I’d done it myself.
I can’t win. I can’t relax! No matter what, the same two outcomes play on repeat: It gets done my way, but we end up in a Cold War—silent treatment, distance, and heartbreak. Or, it gets done his way, but I’d feel stressed and frustrated.
Eventually, my irritation will bubble over, and he’ll end up mad too. I feel exhausted, stuck, and missing the one thing I really want: intimacy, fun, and peace.

What Changed Everything
Through learning the Intimacy Skills™, I realised my husband wasn’t the only problem. He actually wanted to make me happy—he really did. But when he felt bossed around, criticised, or subtly controlled (even if I didn’t mean it that way), his natural instinct was to resist.
And let’s be honest—I didn’t love how I was showing up either. The nagging, fuming, and resentment didn’t feel good for me. I just didn’t know how else to handle the anxiety of having everything perfect.
Then I learned something that changed everything: how to express what I wanted in a way that inspired his natural instinct to step up and help, without feeling pushed or criticised.
A Simple Shift That Made All the Difference
Instead of nagging, micromanaging, or silently fuming, I started sharing what I wanted in a clear, vulnerable way:
“I’d love help with the dishes tonight.”
“I’m feeling overwhelmed with the bills. I really can’t handle them right now.”
When I shifted how I asked, something amazing happened. He stepped up—not begrudgingly, but willingly. He wanted to help, and because he didn’t feel controlled, there was no tension, no resistance.
The Best Part?
The more I let go of control, the more relaxed I became—and the more I rediscovered me.
Instead of wasting energy on micromanaging and resentment, I could focus on the things that lit me up—my dreams, my self-care, and the joy of simply being myself. And as our connection grew, so did the fun, peace, and intimacy I’d been craving.
